Sonic Drive-in Disappointment

It is said that if you expect too much, you are likely to be disappointed and my experience with Sonic’s Brownie Molten Cake Sundae did just that.

One of my all time favorite desserts is the Molten Chocolate Cake from Chili’s (on the nights I can forget that it is a whopping 1,100 calories!). So when I decided to try Sonic’s version of the dessert, it already had some huge shoes to fill.

The main issue I had with this sundae is that it claims to be a “brownie” sundae though the cake is just chocolate cake. It tastes much more like a Drake’s Devil Dog – chocolaty, but dry. To be fair, I did take this “to-go” and I requested no toppings (this can be ordered with fudge, strawberry, or caramel syrup topping). So there was at least 5 minutes of travel, which caused the cake to cool.

Sonic’s soft serve is really good. The vanilla ice cream tasted perfect. Below is a photo, which shows the center. There is not much fudge in the center, so that was kind of disappointing to me.

Overall, the Brownie Molten Cake Sundae was OK. I ate it all because I was craving it, but to be honest I will likely never order this again.

If you do ever go to Sonic, I would suggest an Orange Cream Slushie; this dessert is the only thing I’ve had at Sonic’s that tastes great every time.
